Getting Started
How to set up Melpo Verifier for your Discord server
For the sake of getting started quickly it will be considered that you are using Melpo verifier for verifying users joining a server, a common use case for the system.
🛠️ Discord permissions and good practises
As of writing this document 13/07/2026 there is still a known bug in discord where on occasion it will not send the join event to a bot meaning bots can not always assign the unverified roles.
- One work around for this is to make sure the invite its self adds the role, this may fix the issue, but can not be confirmed.
- The other more tested work around to fix, is in a servers
Default permissions, by clearing theview channelpermission here, you can then assign it to a member role and override the channel everyoneview channel, this will provide control over how users with no roles and by extension unverified users see the server.
🛠️ Melpo configuration flow
Using /setup you can configure your system, this command takes a parameter to indicate the application form you are setting up.
Commonly this can just be called verification as this is a common use case for Melpo Verifier.
There are two ways you can setup Melpo's verification:
Method A : 'Minimal'
This approach will get Melpo setup quickly with minimal configuration:
First run /setup, after setup the following two channels.
- A
Verification Start Channelthis should be the public channel unverified users see to verify. - A
Verification Review Channelthis should be the staff only channel as this is where people can be accepted or denied into the server. - Add your questions and your done, quick simple and will do the job.
Method B : 'Complete'
Follow the same steps as you would for minimal, but also create a Verification Logs Channel, assign verification logs to it and then any handled applications will automatically be archived here, this can assist with differing between unhandled applications and handled ones.
Optional extra : Welcome channel
If you are not using a separate system for welcoming, you can use Melpo's built-in welcome channel, but do note this is linked to the completion of a application not the roles assignment.
Should you assign a Verification welcome message channel Melpo will relay a message to this channel when a application is successful.
Optional extra : The roles tab
Now you for the basics sorted, there are a some optional assignable roles to compliment your setup:
Unverified Role- Role(s) to remove from users upon verification.Verification Ping Role- Role(s) that get pinged with every new application inside theVerification Review Channel, good practise might be to have this ping staff or an allocated element of staff that manage verification.Verification Manager Role- Users with this role can manage applications, this can protect applications behind a role (no roles = everyone can manage)Question Ping Role- Role(s) that get pinged when a user answers a question, generally good practise is to assign this to staff or an allocated element of staff that manage verifications.
